At TOPdesk, they think it’s important to do something for Delft. That’s why they work together with Werkse! To give people who find labour difficult a chance. This is how Patricia Ricks started at the reception. It took some getting used to, but now she enjoys her varied work.
TOPdesk helps people do work that makes them happy and they are good at. The software company creates different types of solutions for businesses. This software is designed with the help of our own experts. The Delft company works closely with Werkse!. Maryse is a Facility Affairs Manager at TOPdesk and Patricia does support and reception work.
Maryse says that social entrepreneurship fits well with how TOPdesk looks at society. “In addition to being successful in business, TOPdesk thinks it is important to do something in return for Delft, where the headquarters are located. This not only means attention to sustainability, but also volunteering and helping people who find it difficult to get a job”.
Everyone gets their own job coach
The collaboration with Werkse! Is going very well, Maryse thinks. “TOPdesk has a regular contact person at Werkse!. As soon as a new employee is needed, we will post the vacancy at Werkse! And they will help you find a suitable candidate.” Anyone who via Werkse! Comes, gets his own job coach. Depending on the situation, there is regular contact. If there are questions about subsidies or what an investment does for people and the neighbourhood, TOPdesk can always contact the contact person. Maryse: “I am positively surprised by how well the candidates fit within our company. We almost always find through Werkse! Someone who fits in well with our company culture and our work”.
TOPdesk believes it is important that employees stay healthy and fit. Vitality and well-being are high on the agenda. Colleagues are given a budget to exercise and a lot is done about working comfort, such as ensuring good chairs and workplaces. Employees are also well taken care of in the event of illness, so that they can return to work when they are better.
Employees of TOPdesk are actively involved in corporate social responsibility. The company organises several volunteer projects that everyone can participate in. For example, employees teach at a primary school, walk with seniors in Delft or give job application training. In this way, they immediately do something for society. Maryse explains: “we want a work environment where everyone can be themselves and feel comfortable. This creates a pleasant atmosphere for everyone and a strong corporate culture”.
Contact with people
Patricia says that in the beginning it was exciting to start at TOPdesk. “But it went well as soon as I got to know my colleagues. The best thing about my job is the contact with visitors and colleagues”. She works in the team that welcomes visitors hospitably and she also performs many other different tasks. She takes care of the counter and the telephone, prepares materials for colleagues, does orders and keeps track of the coffee machines and dishwashers in the pantries. “Because of that variety in my work, it remains challenging and interesting”.
In the workplace, Patricia receives support through one-on-one conversations with Maryse. She can discuss everything and she gets advice on how to deal with situations. Since working at TOPdesk, she has grown a lot, she thinks. This is her first job behind a reception, so many things were new to her. “But I have become better at dealing with people, administrative tasks on the computer and the use of computer programs such as Word. I also took a Hospitality course, which allows me to do my job even better”.
Self-confidence
Patricia wants to continue to develop and become the best in her work. For her, ‘finding work’ and ‘own salary’ are very important. Having her own salary gives her confidence and independence. With the support of Werkse! And the guidance at TOPdesk Patricia feels supported and motivated to grow further in her career.
