On Monday, September 16, The Building Practice training program officially started in Rijswijk. In this apprenticeship, sixteen motivated participants from Delft have the opportunity to develop into professionals in the construction sector in twelve weeks. The project is a collaboration between Werkse!, ERA Contour B.V., 3W, the municipality of Delft and the municipality of Rijswijk.
During the festive kick-off, aldermen Maaike Zwart (Delft) and Gijs van Malsen (Rijswijk) together with the participants, symbolically hit the first nails in the so-called Bouwpraktijk tree.
Alderman Maaike Zwart shared a personal anecdote during her speech: her own first experience in the workplace was also on a construction site. A period she looks back on with pleasure, and from which valuable contacts have still emerged.
Learning in practice
During the process, participants are introduced to various construction disciplines, such as tiling, carpentry, painting and installation work. By getting started directly on the construction site of the new construction project The Orchard (De Sterpassage) in Rijswijk, they discover their talents and possibilities in practice. All participants have now successfully completed their GPI (Generic Gate Instruction) exam. With this, they meet the safety standards to be allowed to work on the construction site.
Building an inclusive labour market together
With The Building Practice, the parties involved join forces to contribute to an inclusive labour market and to reducing the staff shortage in construction. The program offers not only practical experience, but also the prospect of a great career.
