The new project Meedoen in Delft for newcomers started festively on Wednesday, January 28th! Together with the Municipality of Delft and the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA), we are committed to helping newcomers get paid work as quickly as possible. The kick-off was well attended by residents of the reception locations Manderspark and Hotel Campanile.

Within this project, participants at Werkse! An assessment. This way we discover together what experience, skills and wishes they have. From there, we guide 50 newcomers to suitable work.

During the kick-off meeting, two COA residents shared their personal experiences with their way to work. Mohammed has been working at Exact for over a year now and Bridget has recently started working at the Sportfondsen swimming pool. Working helps them to stand on their own two feet and learn the Dutch language better. In addition, it provides distraction and structure. They honestly shared how exciting it is to start over. Bridget gave everyone a nice message: “Trust people and be open to help.”

Aldermen Joëlle Gooijer – Medema (Including Togetherness) and Maaike Zwart (Work & Income) also addressed those present. Alderman Gooijer emphasized: “We are waiting for you. We want you to be part of our city.” Alderman Zwart added: “With work you can participate and meet other people.” Afterwards, participants talked to each other and the first nice connections towards work were made. Newcomers could read information in their own language and sign up directly.
